Pastel on paper.\" width=\"148\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/solowey.com\/exhibitions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Roses-and-Hydrangea-e1398813524607-207x300.jpg 207w, https:\/\/solowey.com\/exhibitions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Roses-and-Hydrangea-e1398813524607-707x1024.jpg 707w, https:\/\/solowey.com\/exhibitions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Roses-and-Hydrangea-e1398813524607.jpg 1188w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 148px) 100vw, 148px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-8\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Roses &amp; Hydrangea<\/em>.<br \/> Pastel on paper.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">paintings, drawings, and prints of lush\u00a0floral arrangements, intimate studio compositions, and works that include Ben Solowey&#8217;s favorite subject, his wife Rae. \u201cBen Solowey <\/span><span class=\"s2\">drew on the genre of still lifes in which he intertwined both the classic and the modern to create a signature style that won many awards and was a favorite among collectors,<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u201d says David Leopold, Director of the Solowey Studio.\u00a0 <b><i>Still Lifes by Ben Solowey<\/i><\/b> will open to the public on Saturday June 7th at the Solowey Studio in Bedminster, PA with a reception from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibit will continue Saturdays and Sundays, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., through June 22nd and then by appointment through August.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b><i>Still Lifes by Ben Solowey<\/i><\/b> features the wide range of media that Ben Solowey mastered over his sixty year career including oil paintings, watercolors, drawings, and etchings. \u201cSome of the earliest works we have of Ben\u2019s are still lifes,\u201d says Leopold. \u201cWhen he finished at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, he supported himself by re-creating Old Master still lifes and game paintings. These dark -hued works were in stark contrast to the still lifes he painted for himself which frequently included bold, vivid colors that reflect the influences of teachers, Arthur B. Carles and Hugh Breckenridge. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;In New York, his still lifes further incorporated the Modernist impulse.\u00a0<\/span>When he comes to farm here in Bucks County, almost all the still lifes were\u00a0culled from his own garden. Here in his ultimate studio his still life painting flourishes and he creates many of the masterpieces that he is known for today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIn addition to some of the favorites we will be showing, as always there be something new to see here including a half dozen\u00a0paintings\u00a0from private collections,\u201d continues Leopold. \u201cWe have several wonderful works in the show that we have never exhibited before.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Visiting <b><i>Still Lifes by Ben Solowey<\/i><\/b>, \u201cthere is the thrill of seeing these masterpieces where they were created, in Solowey\u2019s spacious studio,\u201d exclaims Leopold, \u201cwhich maintains the atmosphere of the artist at work.\u201d The inviting studio, and the beautiful property it sits on, were created and landscaped by Solowey after he left New York in 1942. The Studio has been featured in <i>Architectural Digest, Pennsylvania Heritage, The Discerning Traveler, <\/i>and<i> Bucks County Town and Country Living.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIn honor of our opening on June 7th we will continue our tradition of serving homemade refreshments in the Solowey home, \u201c says Leopold. \u201cThe two hundred-year old farmhouse was restored by Ben and is filled with museum quality furniture handcrafted by him. This may be the only time we open the house this year, so this truly is a special event.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Regular admission to <b><i>Still Lifes by Ben Solowey <\/i><\/b>is $5. Hours are Saturdays and Sundays, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. through June 22nd, and by appointment through August.
